titleOfInvention | Manufacture of dicarboxylic acid diesters with substantial waste water purification |
abstract | 1424370 Preparation of dicarboxylic acid diesters with substantial waste water purification BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK AG 20 June 1973 [21 June 1972] 29226/73 Heading C2C A continuous process for the manufacture of a dicarboxylic acid diester from an aliphatic or aromatic dicarboxylic acid or anhydride thereof and an alcohol of from 3 to 15 carbon atoms comprises esterifying the starting materials in the absence of esterification catalysts at a temperature of from 150‹ to 250‹ C. with recycling of the alcohol used in excess, separating the reaction mixture from the water of reaction, steaming out the reaction mixture and then mixing it with an aqueous alkali for separation of the monoester, and acidifying the resulting aqueous monoester salt solution for the recovery of the monoester, wherein the aqueous monoester salt solution is treated, before, during or after acidification with from 0À5 to 1 times its weight of the same alcohol as used in the esterification, the resulting mixture is separated into alcoholic and aqueous phases and the resulting waste water is extracted with from 1 to 2 times its weight of the same alcohol, the alcoholic phase from this extraction is recycled to the esterification zone and the alcohol is separated from the waste water obtained by admixture of the aqueous phase from this extraction and the waste water arising elsewhere in the manufacturing process. |
