titleOfInvention | Composition for the elimination of mineral oil products by biodegradation |
abstract | 1416274 Treating oil pollution of water BANQUE POUR L'EXPANSION INDUSTRIELLE 12 Feb 1973 [22 Feb 1972] 6805/73 Heading C1C [Also in Division B1] Oil pollution of water, e.g. an oil slick on sea water, is treated with a composition for bringing mineral oil products into the form of a biodegradable emulsion comprising a vinasse (residual wash liquor) in combination with at least one oleophilic fatty acid, which may make up 6 to 20% of the composition. The vinasse may be magnesium or potassium sugar refinery, vinasse or a residuary liquor from the preparation of glutamic acid, and may be enriched in nitrogen by addition of amino acids or casein. The fatty acid may be caproic, octoic, caprylic or oleic acid. The composition may also contain potassium or sodium hydroxide or ammonia or their basic salts to provide a pH of 7 to 7À5, and up to 5% of at least one non-toxic and biodegradable emulsifier selected from sodium oleylisoethionate, sulphonated paraffins or olefins, sodium methylaminoethane sulphonate, sodium lauryl sulphate, sarcosinates, 2-amino-2- hydroxy methyl-1,3 propanediol, aminomethyl propanol, ethoxylated fatty alcohol, polyoxyethyleneglycol oleate. |
