abstract 1415011 Halophenols IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 23 May 1973 [16 June 1972 27 June 1972] 28297/72 and 30049/72 Heading C2C [Also in Division C3] The invention comprises halophenols of the Formula (I) in which Y is F, Cl or Br. They may be prepared by hydrolysing a carbonate of Formula with a base and recovering the halophenol. The carbonate used as starting material may be prepared by reacting under Friedal Crafts conditions, a carbonate of the Formula (III) in which X is Cl or Br with a 4-(4-halobenzoyl) diphenyl ester in which the halogen is F, Cl or Br. The halophenols may be converted to alkali metal salts.
