titleOfInvention 2,4-diamino-5-benzylpyrimidines and a process for their preparation
abstract 1413471 2,4-Diamino-5-benzyl pyrimidines WELLCOME FOUNDATION Ltd 12 Oct 1972 [12 Oct 1971 10 Dec 1971] 47492/71 and 57512/71 Heading C2C Compounds having the general formula wherein one of Q<SP>1</SP> and Q<SP>2</SP> is a 2,4-diaminopyrimidin.5-yl methyl group, R<SP>1</SP>, R<SP>2</SP>, R<SP>3</SP> and the other Q group are hydrogen, halogen or C 1 to C 4 alkyl or alkoxy, and R<SP>6</SP> is hydrogen or alkyl, provided that when Q<SP>2</SP> is the pyrimidyl group Q<SP>1</SP> is not hydrogen; may be prepared by reacting a compound of formula wherein R<SP>71</SP> is hydroxyl, halogen, or the anionic residue of a carboxylic or sulphonic acid, with a compound of the formula wherein at least one of R<SP>4</SP> and R<SP>5</SP> is hydrogen and the other is hydrogen, halogen or C 1 to C 4 alkyl or alkoxy, in a polar non-phenolic solvent capable of dissolving both reactants, and, when R<SP>6</SP> is alkyl, alkylating the product with an alkylating agent R<SP>6</SP>Z wherein Z is a reactive atom or group. The invention further comprises compounds having the general formula wherein whenever Q<SP>1</SP> is 2,4-diaminopyrimidin- 5-yl-methyl and whenever at least one of R<SP>3</SP> and Q<SP>2</SP> is alkyl or alkoxy, then at least one of R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> is other than hydrogen.
