titleOfInvention Water-insoluble preparations of peptide materials their production and their use
abstract 1413382 Water-insolubilized peptide preparations BAYER AG 29 March 1973 [30 March 1972] 15115/73 Addition to 1413381 Heading C3H [Also in Division C2] A water-insoluble preparation comprises a peptide material, e.g. a protein, enzyme, enzyme inhibitor or amino acid bound to a crosslinked copolymer comprising the copolymerized residues: A: 0À1 to 90 wt. per cent of at least one α,#-mono-olefinically unsaturated dicarboxylic anhydride having 4 to 9 carbon atoms; B: 35 to 90 wt. per cent of at least one di- and/or polyacrylate or methacrylate of a diol and/or a polyol; and C: 5 to 60 wt. per cent of at least one hydrophilic monomer not as defined under B. The copolymer having a bulk volume of 1À4 to 30 ml./g., and a specific area of 1 to 500 m.<SP>2</SP>/g. and containing, after hydrolysis of the anhydride groups, 0-01 to 14 m.equiv. of acid per gram. The copolymerized residues A may be derived from at least one of maleic, itaconic and citraconic anhydrides and the copolymerized residues B may be at least one of the acrylates derived from diacrylates and dimethacrylates of diols having 2 to 4 carbon atoms, dimethacrylates of reaction products of 1 mole of diols having 2 to 4 carbon atoms with 1 to 10 moles of at least one alkylene oxide with 2 to 4 carbon atoms, and trimethylolpropane trimethacrylate, and the copolymerized units C of the copolymer are derived from at least one hydrophilic monomer containing a carboxyl, aminocarbonyl, sulpho or sulphamoyl group. Preferably residues A are of maleic anhydride, residues B are of ethylene glycol, diethylene glycol, triethylene glycol and tetraethylene glycol dimethacrylates, trimethylolpropane trimethacrylates and mixtures thereof, and residues C are selected from methacrylic acid, acrylic acid, methacrylamide, N-methoxymethyl acrylamide, N-methoxymethylmethacrylamide, N-vinyl pyrrolidone and mixtures thereof.
