1412903 Veneer manufacture; laminates DANTANI PLYWOOD CO Ltd and SADASHIGE FANCY PLYWOOD INDUSTRIES CO Ltd 18 July 1973 [18 July 1972 (2) 22 Jan 1973] 34253/73 Headings B5L and B5N A process for producing veneer comprises dividing a log into a plurality of flat sided pieces, smoothing surfaces of said pieces which are to be joined, joining said pieces together using a hydrophilic adhesive to form a composite block, and slicing sheets of veneer from the block Fig. 13, all the process being carried out with the wood having a moisture content greater than its fibre saturation point. The adhesive may be an epoxy, phenolic, resorcinol, urethane, urea, melamine, or alkyd, resin and may include a pigment such as titanium white, red iron oxide, chrome yellow, and gold dust, and/or a dyestuff such as alizarine red S, methylene glue, Sudan II, azo type dyestuff or cyanine type dyestuff. Various arrangements of the blocks to form various patterns in the sliced veneer sheets are disclosed. The veneer sheets may be adhered to substrates such as wood, plywood, particle board, hardboard, paper, plastic sheet, cement board, ceramic tiles or metallic sheets using as adhesive vinyl acetate emulsion or ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer emulsion or a mixture of these emulsions, or either of these emulsions mixed with urea or phenolic resin. |
