1412578 Substituted diphenyl ethers BAYER AG 2 July 1974 [3 July 1973] 29248/74 Heading C2C Halogenated 4 - trifluoromethyl-diphenyl ethers of the general formula: in which R<SP>1</SP> represents C 1-4 alkylthio, C 1-4 alkylsulphinyl, C 1-4 alkylsulphonyl or aminothiocarbonyl, R<SP>2</SP> represents hydrogen or methyl, X<SP>1</SP> represents halogen and X<SP>2</SP> represents hydrogen or halogen are prepared by reacting a 4-halogenobenzotrifluoride of the general formula in which Hal represents halogen with a phenolate or thiophenolate of the general formula in which M represents an alkali metal, or (if R<SP>1</SP> represents alkylsulphinyl or alkylsulphonyl) by oxidizing a diphenyl-ether of the general formula with hydrogen peroxide in acid or alkaline solution; or (if R<SP>1</SP> represents aminothiocarbonyl) by reacting a diphenyl-ether of the general formula with O,O-diethyl-dithiophosphoric acid in the presence of hydrogen chloride. Several compounds are claimed per se and the compounds have herbicidal properties. |
