1411268 Coated roof tiles WACKERCHEMIE GmbH 22 Dec 1972 [23 Dec 1971] 59334/72 Heading B2E [Also in Division C3] A process for treating concrete roof tiles comprises applying to the roof tiles a pigmented plastics dispersion which contains 4 to 80% by weight based on the plastics content of at least one monoester of a mono- or dialcohol with up to 3 carbon atoms or mono- or di-ester of glycerine, with a carboxylic acid having a carbon chain of 10 to 20 atoms. The dispersion is preferably aqueous and may be applied by brushing, spraying or roller. The carboxylic acid may be selected from capric, lauric, palmitic, stearic, oleic, linoelic or linolenic acids and the alcohol may be methyl, ethyl, propyl or vinyl alcohol or ethylene glycol. Preferred synthetic resins are: styreneacrylic ester copolymers; homopolymer of vinyl acetate or its copolymer or terpolymer with up to 60 wt. % of olefins (e.g. ethylene, propylene, butylene), vinyl halides (e.g. vinyl chloride or fluoride or vinylidene chloride), esters of unsaturated carboxylic acids (e.g. (meth)acrylic, maleic, fumaric, crotonic or itaconic acid with mono- or di-alcohols), or vinyl esters of carboxylic acids having 3 to 18 carbon atoms; homopolymers or copolymers of vinyl propionate; (meth)acrylic acid ester homopolymers or copolymers; or butadiene copolymers (e.g. styrene-butadiene copolymer). Pigments mentioned are TiO 2 , black iron oxide, BaSO 4 , talc, mica, CaCO 3 , dolomite, quartz powders, or mixtures thereof. |
