abstract 1409706 Decontamination xanthan gum KELCO CO 7 March 1974 [9 April 1973] 10316/74 Heading C3U A process for decreasing the level of contamination of a bacterially contaminated xanthan gum comprises agitating particulate xanthan gum, including bacterial contaminants, in an atmosphere of propylene oxide gas as essentially the only gas present, at a temperature of 90-125‹ F. for not more than 4 hours such that the amount of bacterial contamination is substantially decreased and then removing propylene oxide from said product xanthan gum to a level of not more than 300 p.p.m.
