1408894 Laminating fabrics AIR PRODUCTS & CHEMICALS Inc 15 Sept 1972 [2 Nov 1971 9 March 1972] 42979/72 Heading B5N [Also in Divisions C3 and D1] A method of forming a laminated fabric comprises adhering a facing material to at least one backing substrate with a polymeric latex adhesive comprising (1) an ethylene/vinylacetate copolymer having a vinylacetate to ethylene ratio of 35 : 65 to 65 : 35, (2) a dispersant in an amount of between 0À1 and 3 parts by wt. per hundred of the copolymer, (3) a thickening agent in an amount between 0À1 and 4 parts by wt. per hundred of the copolymer and (4) a filler in an amount of from 30-500 parts by wt. per hundred of the copolymer, the adhesive having a Tg between - 35 C. and -10 C. Fillers such as silicates, TiO 2 , alumina trihydrate, whiting, BaSO 4 , (NH 4 ) 2 HPO 4 and ammonium sulphonate may be used. Thickening agents specified are sodium polyacrylates, polyacrylic acid and hydroxyethyl cellulose, and as dispersants, tetrasodium pyrophosphate. The method is particularly applicable to the lamination of backings of jute or polypropylene to carpets. |
