abstract 1408843 Substituted phenyl formamidines BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK AG 19 Jan 1973 [22 Jan 1972] 2871/73 Heading C2C Compounds of the formula or their salts of the formula wherein Z is H, Cl, Br or NO 2 ; Y is Cl, Br or NO 2 ; with the proviso that one of Y and Z is NO 2 , X<SP>(-)</SP> is an anion; R<SP>1</SP> is alkyl and R<SP>2</SP> is alkyl or phenyl; are obtained by nitrating a compound of formula or a salt thereof of the formula wherein A and B are H, Cl or Br; with the proviso that one of A and B is H. The nitration is preferably performed either by using 60 to 100% HNO 3 or by using a mixture of HNO 3 or a salt thereof with at least 70% H 2 SO 4 which may contain up to 10% of free SO 3 . Examples are given which illustrate the process.
