titleOfInvention Process for producing anodic oxide films on aluminum or its alloys
abstract 1405935 Colour anodizing aluminium INNOVA CORP 8 Aug 1972 36944/72 Heading C7B Aluminium metal or alloy is colour anodized using an aqueous electrolyte solution comprising boric/hydroxycarboxylic chelate acid anions and sulphuric acid or soluble (bi) sulphate e.g. of alkali metal or ammonium. The chelate acid anions are formed in equilibrium with boric acid, preferably at least 0.2M, and a hydroxycarboxylic acid, preferably 0.2 to 2.0M citric, tartaric, malic, gluconic and/or mandelic acid; preferably the sulphate ion is 0.001 to 5.0 g/l. A D.C. of up to 150 volts and C.D. 12 to 36 A.S.F. may be used. The cathode may be of stainless steel.
