titleOfInvention Polyglycidyl compounds containing n-heterocyclic structures
abstract 1404904 Polyglycidyl compounds CIBAGEIGY AG 20 June 1973 [23 June 1972] 29326/73 Heading C3B [Also in Division C2] Polyglycidyl compounds have general formulĀµ in which n = 2, 3 or 4; A represents a di-,tri- or tetra-valent organic radical which contains a N-heterocyclic or cycloaliphatic ring or two N-heterocyclic or two phenylene rings; R<SP>1</SP> represents a divalent radical in which a and b are identical or different and equal 0 or 1, R<SP>3</SP> is H or methyl and R<SP>2</SP> is a divalent nitrogen-free radical necessary to complete a 5- or 6-membered heterocyclic ring; B either denotes the radical -CH 2 -O-CO- in which case m = 1 or the radical when m = 0. The compounds may be prepared by reacting starting materials containing OH and NH groups with an epihalohydrin followed by dehydrohalogenation in conventional manner, e.g. using NaOH. A typical starting material has the formulĀµ and may be obtained by reacting 5,5-dimethylhydastoin and 1,1<SP>1</SP>-methylene-bis(3-glycidyl-5,5- dimethylhydastoin) in the presence of a quaternary ammonium compound as catalyst. Other starting materials are obtained by reacting hydastoins and substituted dihydrouracils with bisphenol A diglycidyl ethers, hydrogenated derivatives thereof and cycloaliphatic polyepoxides. The polyglycidyl compounds of the invention may be cured by conventional epoxy resin hardeners to obtain mouldings with good mechanical and electrical properties.
