titleOfInvention | Flame retardant integral skin polyurethane foam |
abstract | 1402372 Foamed polyurethane/carbon black compositions GENERAL TIRE & RUBBER CO 1 June 1973 [10 July 1972] 26382/73 Headings C3C C3R C3P and C3G A flame retardant non-rigid polyurethane foamed moulded article having an integral skin is made by reacting, in the presence of an organic blowing agent, a mixture of (a) an organic polyisocyanate, (b) a polyol having an average mol. wt. of 400-15,000 made by polymerizing an ethylenically unsaturated monomer in an organic polyol, the monomer being free of - OH groups reactive with -NCO groups, together with optionally up to 70% by wt. of another polyol and (c) at least one aryl amine having at least two amino groups and which is where R is halogen or methoxy and m is 2 or 3 where X is C 1-10 alkylene, -O-, -SO 2 - or a bond joining the two rings, and R<SP>1</SP> is H, halogen or methoxy, at least one R<SP>1</SP> being halogen or methoxy where Y is thio, polythio, seleno, polyseleno, telluro or polytelluro, and R<SP>11</SP> is H, halogen or methoxy where R<SP>111</SP> is C 1-10 alkylene, R<SP>IV</SP> is H, halogen or methoxy, at least one R<SP>IV</SP> being halogen or methoxy and n is 0À5-2, and E a mixture of at least one of the above aryl amines A to D and up to 50 mol. per cent of at least one aryl amine which is one of where Z is C 1-10 alkylene, -O- -SO 2 - or a bond joining the two rings, R<SP>111</SP> is C 1-10 alkylene, m is 2 or 3 and n is 0À5-2; the poly(methaneurea) foam containing 0À001-2À0 parts by wt. of carbon black per 100 parts of the foam, the carbon black being (1) lampblack, channel black, gas furnace black, oil furnace black and/or thermal black, and having (2) a structure index of 30-160 (viz. the number of c.c. of dibutyl phthalate absorbed/100 g. of the carbon black) and (3) a surface area of 5-165 sq. metres/gm. In the example mixtures of (1) a propylene oxide adduct of a triol at least partially end-capped with ethylene oxide, 4,4<SP>1</SP>-methylene-bis-(2- chloro - aniline), a formaldehyde/o - chloro aniline reaction product, triethylene diamine, dipropylene glycol and channel carbon black, (2) an NCO terminated prepolymer made by reacting 2,4- and 2,6-tolylene diisocyanates with a grafted polyol made by polymerizing acrylonitrile in a polypropylene ether triol, trichloromonofluoromethane and a polysiloxane-polyoxyalkylene block copolymer and (3) dioctyl phthalate and stannous octoate, were mixed together in the mixing head of a foam machine and then fed to a mould where foaming occurred. |
