titleOfInvention Methods for the manufacture of electrical connectors
abstract 1398594 Moulding electrical connectors INTERNATIONAL COMPUTERS Ltd 2 March 1973 [28 March 1972] 14402/72 Heading B5A In a method of making an electrical connector comprising a number of conductive elements spaced apart in a support of elastomeric material using a number of units each including an array of individual conductor elements 1, e.g. micro spring elements, joined to a common support 2, the units are mounted side-by-side in a slotted spacer block 3 positioned in a container 4. A liquid elastomer, e.g. a polyurethane or silicone rubber, is supplied to the container until its top surface is level with the upper ends of the elements and is then cured; the cured block is removed from the block 3 and the supports 2 removed, e.g. by grinding. The ends of the elements may be domed by the deposition of gold or other metal. Alternatively each unit may be ladder-like in shape or the common support of each unit may comprise a tape with an adhesive layer to which one end of each element is secured.
