titleOfInvention Process for the production of substituted cyclohexen-2-ones
abstract 1398535 Cyclohex-2-enones DEUTSCHE TEXACO AG 18 Aug 1972 [3 Sept 1971 (2)] 38680/72 Heading C2C Substituted cyclohex-2-enones are prepared by reacting a cyanoethylated ketone having the general formula in which R 1 is hydrogen or an alkyl group having 1 to 5 carbon atoms, and R 2 and R 3 , which may be the same or different, are each hydrogen, an alkyl group having 1 to 5 carbon atoms or a betacyanoethyl group, in a polar solvent in the presence of a catalyst at from 20‹ to 150‹ C. The catalyst may be a base which results in an amino-substituted product or a strong mineral acid which results in an hydroxy-substituted product. Preferred solvents are primary, secondary and tertiary alcohols boiling between 60‹ and 150‹ C.
