titleOfInvention | Process for preparing alkyl cycloalkyl or aryl phosphorus halides and mixed isomers thereof |
abstract | 1398431 Phosphorus acid halides STAUFFER CHEMICAL CO 9 June 1972 [10 June 1971] 26947/72 Heading C2P Compounds of Formula IV where R is an optionally substituted m-valent radical derived from a C 1-20 alkane, C 5 or C 6 cycloalkane, aromatic hydrocarbon having a single ring or 2 or 3 fused rings or biphenyl or, when m is 2, the grouping -R 2 -phenylene- R 2 - where R 2 is C 1-10 alkylene, R 1 is optionally substituted C 1-20 alkyl, C 5 or C 6 cycloalkyl, aryl having a single ring or 2 or 3 fused rings or biphenyl, or chlorine or bromine, X is chlorine or bromine, Y is O or S and m is an integer from 1 to n; are prepared by reacting, under at least an autogenous pressure at a temperature of 200 to 450 C., a halide of Formula V RX n where n is an integer, with a compound or mixture of compounds of Formula VI R 1 P(X) z in the presence of a compound of Formula VII P 4 Y 10 . Compounds of Formula XIb where R 5 is H or C 1-4 alkyl are prepared by reacting under the same conditions as above a compound of formula R 5 -CH 2 -CH 2 -X with a compound of formula R 1 P(X) 2 in the presence of phosphorus pentasulphide. Compounds analogous to those of Formula XI in which Y is oxygen may be prepared in a similar manner. In the presence of a hydrocarbon diluent, these reactants give a product according to the first process, above. Compounds of Formula XIa are prepared by reacting under the same conditions as above a compound of formula R 5 HC=CH-R 5 with a compound of formula R 1 P(X) z in the presence of a compound of formula P 4 Y 10 . Compounds of Formula XIa in which R 1 is other than halogen are claimed per se. Other compounds claimed per se are those of the formulae where R 1 , X, Y and R 2 are as defined above except that in Formulae XII and XIII R 1 is other than halogen, R 4 is a radical derived from benzene, naphthalene or anthracene, R 3 is a radical derived from a C 5 to C 6 cycloalkane, n<SP>1111</SP> is an integer from 1 to 5 and n<SP>1</SP>, n<SP>11111</SP> and n<SP>111111</SP> are integers of at least 2. In an example, 2,5-dichloro-phenylene-1,4- diphosphonic acid is prepared by hydrolysing 2,5 - dichloro - phenylene - 1,4 - di - (thionophosphonic dichloride). |
