titleOfInvention Production of 4-methyloxazoles
abstract 1397820 4-Methyloxazoles BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK AG 20 Oct 1972 [21 Oct 1971] 48382/72 Heading C2C 4-Methyloxazoles of Formula (I) in which R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> are aliphatic or aromatic radicals and R<SP>2</SP> may additionally be hydrogen and R<SP>1</SP> a cycloaliphatic or araliphatic radical, are prepared by cyclizing an iminoether of general formula HN = CR<SP>1</SP>-O-CHR<SP>2</SP>-C#CH in the presence of a salt of a metal of Group Ib, IIb or VIII of the Periodic Table as catalyst. Preferred catalysts are salts of silver, mercury, copper, zinc, cadmium, iron and nickel, e.g. of a sulphonic acid or of a C 1 -C 6 aliphatic carboxylic acid. Examples describe the preparation of 2-ethyl-4-methyloxazole, 2-benzyl-4- methyloxazole, 2-phenyl-4-methyloxazole, 2- phenyl - 4 - methyloxazole, 2,4,5 - trimethyloxazole, 2 - (2<SP>1</SP> - hydroxybutyl - 2<SP>1</SP>) - 4 - methyloxazole, 2 - benzyl - 4 - methyloxazole, 2- heptadecanyl - 4 - methyloxazole, 2 - (3<SP>1</SP>- chloropropyl) - 4,5 - dimethyloxazole, and 2-(1-methylnorbornyl)-4-methyloxazole.
