titleOfInvention Treatment of keratinous fibres
abstract 1396509 Shrinkproofing wool DOW CORNING LTD 10 Aug 1972 [28 Aug 1971] 40471/ 71 Heading D1P Keratinous fibres are shrinkproofed by applying 0.5-10% wt polyorganosiloxanes of formula wherein n has an average value of 1.9 to 2.1 and R is an organic radical attached to silicon through a Si-C bond, 0.25 to 50% of R substituents being monovalent and having less than 30C atoms and containing in a position at least 3C atoms distant from the silicon atom, at least one -NH- radical and at least one -NHX radical wherein X is hydrogen C 1-30 alkyl or aryl. The remaining R substituents are monovalent hydrocarbon radicals, halogenated hydrocarbon radicals, carboxyalkyl or cyanoalkyl radicals of 1-30C atoms, at least 70% of these remaining R radicals having 1-18 (inclusive) carbon atoms. Specified amino radicals are -(CH 2 ) 3 NHCH 2 CH 2 - NH 2 , -CH 2 CH.CH 3 .HCH 2 NHCH 2 CH 2 NH 2 , -(CH 2 ) 4 NHCH 2 CH 2 NH 2 , -(CH 2 ) 3 NH(CH 2 ) 6 - NH,CH 3 , or R" 2 NCH 2 CH 2 (NHCH 2 CH 2 ) x NH 1 R'- wherein R" is hydrogen, alkyl or a aryl, x is 1 to 10, y is 1 or 2 and R' is divalent or trivalent hydrocarbon radical with at least 3C atoms. The other substituents may be substantially all methyl radicals. The polysiloxane may be applied as a solution or dispersion in benzene, hexane, toluene or perchloroethylene. The keratinous fibres may be chlorinated prior to treatment with the polyorganosiloxane. The treated fibres may be aged at 40-160‹C. The keratinous fibre may be sheep's wool, mohair, cashmere, alpaca or vicuna wool.
