abstract | 1395295 Process for 2-alkoxy- or -alkenyloxy- 5-alkyl or alkenyl-sulphonyl-benzoic acids SOC D'ETUDES SCIENTIFIQUES ET INDUSTRIELLES DE L'ILE-DE-FRANCE 6 June 1973 [12 June 1972] 27050/73 Heading C2C The invention comprises a process for making compounds (I) in which each of A and B is a C 1-5 alkyl or C 2-5 alkenyl radical, that comprises nitrosating o-cresol to produce 5-nitroso-o-cresol, reducing the nitroso derivative to 5-amino-o-cresol, treating the latter with an alkylating or alkenylating agent to produce the corresponding 2- (alkoxy or alkenyloxy)-5-aminotoluene, diazotizing this compound and treating the resulting diazo compound with a metal salt of an alkylthiol or alkenylthiol to produce a 2-(alkoxy- or -alkenyloxy)-5-(alkylthio- or -alkenylthio)- toluene which is thereafter oxidized to give (I). |
