1394620 1 - Alkyl - 5 - phenyl - 1H - 1,2,4- triazoles GRUPPO LEPETIT SpA 20 Nov 1973 [22 Dec 1972] 53836/73 Heading C2C Novel 1 - alkyl - 5 - phenyl - 1H - 1,2,4- triazoles of the general formula wherein R is a C 1-4 alkyl group, R 1 is a pyridyl, C 1-4 alkylpyridyl, thienyl, C 1-4 alkylthienyl, furyl, C 1-4 alkylfuryl, indolyl, pyrrolyl or C 1-4 alkylpyrrolyl group and R 2 is a hydrogen atom or hydroxy group, and pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts thereof are prepared (a) when R 2 is a hydroxy group, by heating a compound of the general formula in the presence of an organic solvent and an acid catalyst; and (b) when R 2 is a hydrogen atom, by catalytic hydrogenation of the product of (a); followed optionally by the salification of the product. Pharmaceutical compositions having central nervous system depressant activity comprise, as active ingredient, a 1-alkyl-5-phenyl-1H- 1,2,4-triazole of the first general formula above or a pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salt, together with a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. |
