titleOfInvention | Silver salt material containing a dihydropyridine for use in thermography |
abstract | 1393895 Silver salt material containing a dihydropyridine AGFA-GEVAERT 7 July 1972 [20 July 1971] 34045/71 Heading G2C A photo-sensitive material comprising a photodeactivatable reductor capable of reducing a silver soap at elevated temperature is imagewise exposed, and then uniformly heated while being in intimate contact with a sheet material comprising a reducible non-light-sensitive silver salt and 1,4- dihydropyridine of the formula:- where R 1 is H or 1-5C alkyl; each of R 2 and R 5 is H or alkyl; each of R 3 and R4 is CN or a substituent containing a carbonyl group directly linked to the 1, 4-dihydropyridine ring; and R 6 is H, alkyl or aryl, thereby transferring non- deactivated reductor to the sheet material and forming with the aid of the 1, 4-dihydropyridine a visible image thereon. The sheet material may be uniformly heated at 50‹-200‹C. The photosensitive material may contain a further reducing agent together with a catalytic amount of photolytically reducible silver halide formed from the non-light-sensitive silver salt and being in catalytic proximity with the silver salt in which case also the 1, 4-dihydropyridine acts as an auxiliary reducing agent, but this material after imagewise exposure is simply uniformly heated to produce a visible image. The non-light-sensitive silver salt may be a silver salt of an aliphatic carboxylic acid containing at least 14C, e.g. silver behenate or stearate. The photo-deactivatable reductor may be 4-methoxy-1-naphthol or 2-(pchlorophenyl)-acetoacetonitrile (see Example 1). The silver metal images obtained using the 1, 4- dihydropyridine as auxiliary reducing agent have improved colour density. |
