abstract | 1391132 Vulcanizing acrylic rubbers B F GOODRICH CO 17 July 1973 [18 July 1972] 33880/73 Heading C3P Vulcanizable compositions comprise (A) an acrylic rubber comprising (i) 40-99À8 wt. per cent of at least one acrylate of formula wherein R is a C 1-18 alkyl radical or a C 2-12 alkoxyalkyl, alkylthioalkyl or cyanoalkyl radical, (ii) 0À1-30 wt. per cent of a halogencontaining monomer, (iii) 0À1-20 wt. per cent of a carboxyl-containing monomer, and (iv) 0-35 wt. per cent of a further copolymerizable monomer containing a terminal vinylidene group; and (B) 0À5-7 wt. per cent based on the rubber, of an alkali metal salt of either an organic phosphorus acid or a C 2-24 carboxylic acid. A curing catalyst (C) may also be present, e.g. a quaternary ammonium salt, an amine (including guanidines), an amine/acid salt or an amine/isocyanate reaction product. Vulcanizing is suitably effected by heating the mixture to 250-450‹ F. In examples, the following are the materials used:- (A) rubbers of which the monomers are selected from (i) ethyl acrylate, n-butyl acrylate and methoxyethyl acrylate, (ii) vinyl benzyl chloride, 2-chloroethyl acrylate and 5-chloroacetoxymethyl-2-norbornene, and (iii) acrylic acid and methacrylic acid; (B) potassium stearate, sodium stearate, a mixture thereof, sodium cinnamate, and the sodium salt of alkylphenoxy poly-(ethyleneoxy)ethyl phosphate; and (C), when present, dodecyl pyridinium bromide, trimethylalkyl ammonium chloride, 4,4<SP>1</SP>-dipyridyl propane, dicyandiamide, tetramethyl guanidine/benzoyl chloride reaction product, di-(tetramethyl guanidine)/toluene diisocyanate raction product, and reaction products of benzoic acid with t-butylamine, triethylene diamine, N-methyl piperidine and 4,41- dipyridyl propane. |
