titleOfInvention Diagnostic agent
abstract 1389368 Bilirubin test paper BOEHRINGER MANNHEIM GmbH 14 Aug 1973 [17 Aug 1972] 38430/73 Heading G1B A test strip for detection of bilirubin in body fluids comprises (a) an absorbent carrier, (b) a diazonium salt of formula: wherein R 1 and R 2 are halogen, alkyl or alkoxy and R 3 and R 4 are hydrogen, halogen, nitro, alkyl or alkoxy such that the benzene ring has 1 to 3 halogen substituents or a nitro-substituent but not both and X is an anion and (c) an acid. The carrier may be filter paper, glass fibre paper, or fabric or fleece made from acid-resistant synthetic fibres. The diazonium salt may be a diazonium fluoborate of 2, 6-dichlorobenzene, 2-methoxy-4, 6-dibromobenzene, 2-methyl-4, 6-dibromobenzene, 2-methyl-4-chloro-6- bromobenzene, 2-methyl-4-bromo-6-chlorobenzene, 4-methyl-2, 6-dibromobenzene, 4- ethyl-2, 6-dibromobenzene, 4-methyl-2, 6- di-iodobenzene, 2, 6-dimethyl-3-nitrobenzene, 2-ethoxy-4, 6-dibromobenzene, 4-methoxy-2, 6-dibromobenzene, 2, 6-dimethoxy-3, 5-dibromobenzene, 2, 6-dimethoxy-4-nitrobenzene, 2, 5-dimethyl-4, 6-dibromobenzene, 2, 4, 6- tribromobenzene, 2-methyl-4, 6-dibromo-5- chlorobenzene, 2, 4,6-tribromo-3-methoxybenzene and 2, 3, 6-tribromobenzene, 2, 4, 6- trichlorobenzene-diazonium toluene sulphonate and 2, 4, 6-tribromobenzene-diazonium naphthalene disulphonate. The diazonium salt may be prepared in situ from sodium nitrite and the corresponding aniline, e.g. 2-methyl-6-chloroaniline, 2, 6-dimethyl-3-bromoaniline, 2, 6-dimethyl -4-bromoaniline, 2, 6-dimethoxy-3-bromoaniline and 2, 6-dimethoxy-4-chloroaniline. The acid may be metaphosphoric or citric acid. The strip may also contain an activator for the diazobilirubin coupling reaction, a phosphate of formula: wherein Rs and R6 are organic groups, a stabilizer and a wetting agent. The carrier may be stuck to the end of a narrow strip of synthetic resin foil, or sealed between two sheets of synthetic resin film or between a film and a meshwork.
