abstract | 1389217 D-glycine esters and salts thereof GLAXO LABORATORIES Ltd 22 May 1972 [2 June 1971] 18675/71 Heading C2C A process for the resolution of DL-phenylglycine esters of formula C 6 H 5 CH.NH 2 .CO 2 R (where R represents an alkyl group with 1 to 6 carbon atoms or a cycloalkyl group with 5 or 6 carbon atoms), comprises treating said DL- phenylglycine ester of Formula I with (+)- tartaric acid in the presence of a mixture of solvents of different polarities one of which is an alkanol having 1-4 carbon atoms, and selectively crystallizing the (+)-hemitartrate of the D-phenylglycine ester therefrom which are novel compounds useful in the synthesis of penicillins-cephalosporins. The free base bphenylglycine ester is obtained and maybe hydrolysed to D-phenylglycine. |
