abstract | 1389177 Citronellal and homologues RHONEPOULENC SA 3 May 1973 [4 May 1972] 21167/73 Heading C2C The selective hydrogenation of the ethylenic bond conjugated with the carbonyl group in compounds of formula where R 1 , R 2 , R 3 , R 4 and R 6 are independently H or C 1-5 alkyl and R 5 is C 1-5 alkyl, is effected in the presence of a Pd metal catalyst in a substantially anhydrous C 1-5 aliphatic alcohol containing an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal salt of an oxyacid of boron. The alcohol may contain up to 0À1% of water. Examples prepare citronellal from citral, other starting materials are specified. |
