abstract 1386516 Polymer latex composition UNION CARBIDE CORP 12 May 1972 [13 May 1971] 22307/72 Heading C3P A polymer latex composition for use as a coating composition, mastic, sealant &c. comprises a latex of an alkyl acrylate copolymer having dispersed therein a monovalent secondary or tertiary amine salt of a copolymer of ethylene and acrylic acid containing 14 to 54% by wt. acrylic acid and having a melt index of 0.1 to 1000 decigrams per minute, determined at 190‹ C. The acrylate copolymer preferably contains at least 50 wt. per cent of an alkyl acrylate, e.g. ethyl acrylate, together with one or more comonomers, acrylonitrile, N-methylol acrylamide, acrylic acid, itaconic acid, styrene, glycidyl acrylate, methyl methacrylate and methacrylic acid being exemplified. The composition may also contain thickeners and fillers, e.g. SiO 2 , TiO 2 , mica, asbestos, CaCO 3 or clay; surfactants and dispersants, e.g. sodium polyphosphates; fire-retardants, e.g. Sb 2 O 3 and a chlorine compound; anti-foamers; plasticizers and solvating media, e.g. tricresyl phosphate or tri(butoxyethyl) phosphate; biocides, e.g. phenyl mercury acetate; and waxes, e.g. chlorinated hydrocarbon wax or carnauba wax dispersed with a fatty acid and an amine.
