1386284 Oxygen; hydrogen GAZ DE FRANCE 4 May 1972 [4 May 1971] 20887/72 Heading ClA [Also in Division G6] Oxygen and hydrogen are obtained by using a high temperature heat source, e.g. metallic tin coolant from a nuclear reactor, to melt stannic oxide at about 1700‹ C. and decompose it into stannous oxide and oxygen; the oxygen is withdrawn and the stannous oxide cooled to 700‹ C., decomposing into stannic oxide and liquid tin which are separated; the stannic oxide is recycled and the liquid tin reacted with steam to obtain hydrogen and further stannic oxide. A suitable installation is described with reference to drawings. |
