titleOfInvention | Process and installation for providing a support with a plasma deposited lining |
abstract | 1385480 Plasma torches CENTRE NATIONAL DE LA RECHERCHE SCIENTIFIQUE 11 Dec 1971 [11 Dec 1970] 36649/74 Divided out of 1385479 Heading H5H [Also in Division C7] A plasma spraying device, for spraying materials having a high melting point (and melting them during the spraying) comprises an anode 16, a cathode 18 (a thoriated tungsten rod) an insulating cross-member 14 between anode and cathode and a plasma forming gas supply 22, the plasma passing out through a nozzle 10 and having injected into it particles of the material to be sprayed (through injectors 46, 46a), there also being a gaseous barrier 52 at the outlet of the device to break up the plasma jet 6 and prevent overheating of a support 2 which is being coated with the sprayed material. A gaseous sheath 57 is formed about the jet 6 by a gas, such as argon, ejected from a number of orifices 58 (Fig. 3, not shown) about the nozzle 10. The plasma forming gas may be a mixture of argon and nitrogen, or argon and hydrogen or nitrogen and hydrogen. The material sprayed can be any one of a number of metals, metal oxides and metal carbides or mixtures of these, comprising Ca, CW 2 (or CW), Cr 3 C 2 , Mo, Ni, Cr 2 O 3 , Fe or Al 2 O 3 . When mixture of materials having differing melting points is to be sprayed, these may be injected into different parts of the plasma jet 6, through injectors such as 46, 46a, so that the particles of each material are in the jet long enough to completely melt them but not so long that the molten drops vaporize. The gaseous barrier 52 is formed by gas emanating from an elongate slot 56a in a tube 56. The support 2 is rotated to provide an annular ring of coating which coating may comprise the friction lining of a brake or clutch disc. The anode 16 is cooledbyacoolingcircuit 44 supplied with water through a conduit associated with the supply line 25 for the anode, the water also cooling the cathode and leaving through a conduit associated with the cathode supply line 36. |
