| abstract | 1384989 Process for the preparation of poly- (aminophenyl)methanes BAYER AG 31 May 1973 [3 June 1972] 26008/73 Heading C2C The invention comprises a process for the preparation of polyarylalkylene polyamines in which an aromatic amine, or mixture of such amines, is condensed with formaldehyde in the presence of an acid catalyst and in which there is present in the condensed reaction mixture after the condensation is complete, sufficient water which has been added to the reaction system before and/or during and/or after the condensation reaction to cause the mixture to separate into an aqueous and an organic phase, the organic phase being separated off and the desired products isolated therefrom, without the addition of any base which is stronger than the aromatic amine used. Products specifically referred to are 2,4<SP>1</SP>- and 4,4<SP>1</SP>-diaminodiphenylmethane and 2,4<SP>1</SP>- and 4,4<SP>1</SP>-di-(methylamino)- diphenylmethane. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,298,480. |
