titleOfInvention Process for preparing phosphonothioic dihalides
abstract 1384191 Thiophosphonic acid dihalides and esters STAUFFER CHEMICAL CO 11 Jan 1973 [2 Feb 1972] 1517/73 Heading C2P Compounds of Formula I where R is C 1-20 alkyl, an aryl-substituted derivative (of 1 ring or 2 fused rings) thereof, C 5-6 cycloalkyl, aryl having 1 ring or 2 or 3 fused rings or biphenyl, or a C 1-4 alkyl substituted derivative of an above defined cycloalkyl, aryl or biphenyl radical and X is chlorine or bromine are prepared by reacting under at least an autogenous pressure, at 200‹ to 450‹ C., and in the presence of phosphorus pentasulphide and elemental phosphorus, a halide of Formula II with a compound of Formula III or a compound of Formula IV or a mixture thereof. The insecticides O-ethyl-o-para-nitrophenyl benzenephosphonothioate and O-ethyl-S- phenyl ethanephosphonodithioate are prepared by reacting benzene phosphonothioic dichloride with ethanol and para-nitrophenol, and ethane phosphonothioic chloride with ethanol and thiophenol respectively.
