abstract 1383727 Detergent compositions PROCTER & GAMBLE CO 25 April 1973 [26 April 1972 (2)] 19587/73 Heading C5D Granular detergent compositions comprise (A) a biodegradable surfactant in an amount of 17 to 26% by weight of the composition, of which 20 to 65% of (A) is a hardness-resistant surfactant of formula R(OCH 3 CH 2 ) x OSO 3 M wherein R is an alkyl group having 10 to 20 carbon atoms, x is 1 to 20 and M is an alkali metal or of formula wherein R 1 is an alkyl radical having from 12 to 18 carbon atoms, R 2 and R 3 are each a methyl, ethyl or hydroxyethyl radical,. R 4 is an alkylene chain having from 1 to 3 carbon atoms and X is hydrogen or a hydroxyl radical, (B) a sequestering detergent builder consisting of 0 to 10% of inorganic condensed phosphate and 10 to 35% sodium nitrilotriacetate, both being by weight of the composition, (C) sodium silicate in an amount not less than 12% by weight of the composition and wherein the weight ratio of SiO 2 to Na 2 O is from 1À6 to 2À3, and (D) a phosphorus-free precipitating inorganic detergency builder in an amount of 0 to 33% by weight of the composition in a quantity such that the sum of (B) and (D) is not less than 19% by weight of the composition and the sum of (C) and (D) is not more than 45% by weight of the composition. Component (A) may contain a sodium linear C12 alkyl benzene sulphonate. The phosphorus-free composition may contain sodium perborate or sodium percarbonate. Component (D) may be an alkali metal carbonate, sesquicarbonate or bicarbonate. The zwitterionic compound of component (A) may be 3 - (N,N - dimethyl - N - hexadecyl ammonio) propane-1-sulphonate or 3-(N,N-dimethyl - N - octadecyl ammonio) - 2 - hydroxy propane-1-sulphonate. The condensed phosphate of component (B) may be an alkali metal tripolyphosphate or pyrophosphate.
