titleOfInvention Methods for treating manure
abstract 1382097 Drying chicken manure ANIAGRA PRODUKTIONS AB 19 April 1972 [20 April 1971] 18029/72 Heading F4G Chicken manure is dried by evaporation in an apparatus in which substantially all the released gases and vapours are prevented from escaping to atmosphere, the gases and vapours being condensed and collected. In this way, evilsmelling substances are not released to the atmosphere. In Fig. 3, fresh manure is supplied from a poultry-house via a compressed gas pipe and a shoot 4 on to two counter-rotating rollers 2 and 3, remains on the rollers for a half revolution and is then scraped off. A condenser 5 for the gases and vapours comprises vertical watercooled panels below which are drainage shoots 6. Air (or nitrogen) and remaining vapour are sucked from hood 7, heated and returned to the rollers 2 and 3. Additives such as phosphoric acid or sawdust may be added prior to drying. The heated surfaces of the drier may be powdered with talc to prevent sticking. The condensate may be treated with chlorine or chlorineyielding substances. Means are provided for controlling the amount of manure dried. The product may be formed into pellets &c. after drying, or during two-stage drying. Two stage drying is effected by a roller drier followed by a steam heated rotary furnace.
