titleOfInvention Anti-thrombogenic polymer compositions
abstract 1381365 Anti-thrombogenic heparin/polymer complex TORAY INDUSTRIES Inc 14 Dec 1972 [23 Dec 1971 4 Sept 1972] 57802/72 Heading C3U An anti-thrombogenic polymer composition comprises a water-insoluble cationic copolymer having hydrophilic repeating units derived of a monomer not having a quaternary amine group which hydrophilic repeating units, if homopolymerized, would give a water-soluble polymer hydrophobic repeating units derived of monomers which, if homopolymerized would give a water-insoluble polymer and cationic repeating units derived of monomers having a quaternary amine group together with heparin in an amount sufficient to give the composition a negative standard membrane potential difference, e.g. of from -10 mV to - 40 mV. The hydrophilic units may be derived of acrylic acid, methacrylic acid or salts thereof, an amide of methacrylic acid or an alkylene glycol ester of methacrylic acid or acrylic acid or vinylpyridine. The hydrophobic group may be derived from acrylic acid ester, methacrylic acid ester, acrylonitrile, vinyl acetate, vinyl chloride, styrene, α- methyl styrene, vinylidene chloride, ethylene, propylene or butadiene. The cationic units are preferably derived from a dialkyldiallyl ammonium halide, a quaternary vinyl pyridine salt or a compound of the general formula wherein n is 2 or 3, R is hydrogen or a hydrocarbon group, X- is an anionic group to form a salt and R 1 , R 2 and R 3 are a hydrogen atom and/or hydrocarbon group substituted on the nitrogen atom.
