titleOfInvention Photographic silver salt materials and developer compositions
abstract 1380310 Developer compositions EASTMAN KODAK CO 9 March 1972 [11 March 1971] 10982/72 Heading G2C A developer for a silver salt comprises a hydrazide of the formula:-R<SP>1</SP>-NH-NH-CO-R<SP>2</SP> in which R<SP>1</SP> is aryl or substituted aryl and R<SP>2</SP> is an aliphatic group, preferably 1-6C, containing at least one hydroxy group. Examples of the hydrazide include 1-(2, 2-Bis(hydroxymethyl) propionyl)-2-phenylhydrazide, 1-(2, 2-Bis (hydroxymethyl) propionyl)-2-(2, 5-dichlorophenyl) hydrazide and 1-(3-hydroxypivalyl) -2-phenylhydrazide. The hydrazide may be incorporated in a layer of a photographic material comprising a support bearing a photosensitive silver salt layer e.g. in a silver halide emulsion layer or a layer adjacent thereto. Alternatively it may be incorporated in a layer of a heat processable material comprising a layer or layers of a photo-sensitive silver halide and a light insensitive reducible metal compound capable of providing a source of metal ions for physical development when heated above 70‹C e.g. a silver salt of a fatty acid such as silver behenate. This material may also contain a toner such as phthalimide, succinimide and phthalazinone. In a further embodiment the hydrazide is included in the processing solution held in a rupturable container forming part of an integral material for use in the silver halide diffusion transfer process.
