titleOfInvention | Process for obtaining anhydrous acrolein |
abstract | 1379288 Purifying acrolein PECHINEY UGINE KUHLMANN 20 Dec 1972 [28 Dec 1971] 58845/72 Heading C2C In a process for obtaining substantially anhydrous acrolein from crude acrolein by azeotropic distillation, substantially anhydrous acrolein is extracted at the foot of the column and a water-acrolein-third substance azeotrope is extracted at the top of the column the third substance being inert towards acrolein and insoluble or substantially insoluble in water, the said azeotrope being condensed and supplied to a decanter to form two liquid layers of which the upper layer is refluxed to the top zone of the column. Suitable third substances include pentane, cyclopentane, CS 2 , CH 2 Cl 2 and methyl propyl ether. Fresh crude acrolein may be fed directly to the column, to the gases exiting from the column, or to the upper layer of the decanter. |
