titleOfInvention Phosphorus-containing s-triazine derivatives their manufacture and use in protecting organic materials
abstract 1378940 Phosphorus-containing triazine derivatives CIBA-GEIGY AG 21 June 1972 [23 June 1971] 29015/72 Heading C2P [Also in Divisions C3 Dl and G2] The invention comprises compounds of Formula I where X and Y are each unsubstituted or substituted alkyl, an unsubstituted or substituted monocyclic or bicyclic aromatic or heterocyclic radical, alkenyl, cycloalkyl or aralkyl, and are bonded directly or via an -O-, -S- or -NH- link to the triazine ring, A is hydrocarbyl, D and D<SP>1</SP> either are both hydrogen, cycloalkyl, alkenyl or unsubstituted or substituted alkyl or phenyl, or one of D and D<SP>1</SP> is hydrogen and the other is cycloalkyl, alkenyl or unsubstituted or substituted alkyl or phenyl, R is hydrogen or a group of Formula A Z is halogen, RO-, alkyl, alkoxy, phenalkyl or phenyl and p is 0, 1 or 2, and when p is 2 the substituents Z may be the same or different; and salts of the compounds of Formula I in which at least one of D and D<SP>1</SP> is hydrogen and alcoholates of the compounds of Formula I which have at least one -OH present. The compounds of Formula I may be prepared (a) by reacting a compound of Formula 10 with a compound of Formula 11 or a sulphuric acid mono- or diester thereof, or by reacting a sulphuric acid ester of the compound of Formula 10 with the compound of Formula 11, (b) by reacting a compound of Formula 10 with a compound of Formula 12 (c) by reacting a compound of Formula 10 with a compound of Formula 18 where E<SP>11</SP> is a halogen atom or -SO 3 E<SP>1</SP> where E<SP>1</SP> is optionally substituted alkyl or aryl or (d) by reacting a compound of Formula 10 in which one or both OH groups is replaced by E<SP>11</SP> with a compound of Formula 11. Compounds of Formula I in which D and D<SP>1</SP> are hydrogen may be prepared by hydrolysing mono- or diesters of Formula I, and esters of Formula I may be prepared by esterifying the free acids or by transesterification. The compounds of Formula I may be used to protect organic materials from the effects of ultraviolet radiation.
