titleOfInvention Blends of olefin polymers
abstract 1376777 Olefin polymer blends DART INDUSTRIES Inc 24 Aug 1972 [5 July 1972] 39527/72 Addition to 1347426 Heading C3P Blends comprise (1) 50 to 99À98 weight per cent of a C 2-10 α-olefin polymer and (2) 0À02 to 50 weight per cent of a modified polymer obtained by reacting, in the presence of an organic peroxide, a C 2-10 α-olefin polymer and 10 to 50 per cent by weight of the polymer of a polymerizable compound of formula wherein R<SP>1</SP> is C 1-20 alkylene or cycloalkylene; where R<SP>6</SP> is C 1-10 alkylene, O, S, NH, SO 2 or alkyl-substituted benzylidene; -[R<SP>9</SP>XR<SP>9</SP>] p - wherein R<SP>9</SP> is alkylene, X is NH, O or S and p is 1 to 20; wherein R<SP>10</SP> is C 1-10 alkylene, SO 2 , O, S or alkylsubstituted benzylidene, Y is O or S and n is 1 to 20; wherein R<SP>13</SP> is C 1-10 alkylene, x is 1 to 10 and z is 1 to 10; -CH 2 [OR<SP>14</SP>] 5 - where R<SP>14</SP> is C 1-10 alkylene and r is 1 to 100; -CH 2 [OCH 2 OCH 2 - CH 2 ] s - wherein s is 1 to 100; and R<SP>2</SP> is H or CH 3 . The olefin polymer may be a polyethylene, polypropylene, polybutene-1, poly-4-methylpentene-1 or ethylene/propylene or ethylene/propylene/butene copolymer. The blends may be mixed with glass fibres to produce reinforced moulding compositions, or may be coated on metallic and glass substrates. In examples (1) polypropylene is modified by reacting with glycidyl acrylate in the presence of t.butyl peracetate, and the product is blended with (2-4) polypropylene and glass fibres.
