abstract | 1376453 Aryl acetylene ethers STAUFFER CHEMICAL CO 16 Nov 1971 [16 Nov 1970 (2)] 53121/71 Heading C2C The invention comprises compounds of formula wherein R represents alkynyl; R 1 represents alkynoxy, thioalkynoxy, haloalkenoxy, or carboalkynoxy; and X represents hydrogen, alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, alkoxy, thioalkoxy, alkynoxy, halogen, cyano, carboalkoxy, carboalkynoxy, formyl or carbamyl and represents one or more substituents which may be the same or different at one or more positions of the ring. These compounds may be prepared by treating a substituted phenol or polyhydroxy benzene with a propargyl halide in air inert solvent such as acetone, using approximately a mole equivalent of a base as an acid acceptor, e.g. K 2 CO 3 . The invention also comprises a herbicidal or insecticidal composition which contains as an active ingredient a compound according to the invention together with an inert carrier or diluent. |
