| abstract | 1374455 Laminated products FMC CORP 22 Dec 1971 [23 Dec 1970] 59772/71. Heading B5N [Also in Division C3] Compositions for use in the manufacture of fibrous reinforced thermoset resin laminates comprise (a) 5 to 95% by weight of a diallyl phthalate monomer or prepolymer at least 5% of the 5 to 95% being liquid monomer (b) 95 to 5% by weight of a polyphenylene ether of formula where n is an integer of at least 10, R, R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>11</SP> are hydrogen or hydrocarbon, halohydrocarbon, hydrocarbonoxy or halohydrocarbonoxy radicals free of tertiary α carbon atoms and the halo-radicals having at least two carbon atoms between the halogen atom and the phenol nucleus and R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>11</SP> may also be halogen (c) 0À1 to 1À5% by weight based on the weight of the composition of anthracene and (d) a free radical initiator in amount sufficient to convert the composition to the thermoset state at elevated temperatures wherein the percentages of (a) and (b) are based on the combined weight of (a), (b). In the examples a mixture of diallylisophthalate monomer and a prepolymer, polyphenylene-ether, anthracene, dicumyl peroxide, methacryloxypropyltrimethoxysilane in acetone was used to impregnate glass cloth, 12 layers of which were laminated in a flat bed press. Glass cloth or paper impregnated with the composition may be laminated to copper foil coated with polyphenylene ether. |
