The p-nitrobenzyl and CH 2 CX 3 groups may be selectively cleaved, while avoiding cleavage of all other protected carboxy substituents by use of zinc and dilute acid. Intermediates isolated are CBO-asp(Bz)- OH and BOC-glu(Bz)-OH.
