titleOfInvention Treatment of spent boron phosphate catalyst
abstract 1373615 Processing spent boron phosphate catalyst IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 30 Nov 1972 [2 Dec 1971] 56009/71 Heading C1A Phosphoric acid, boric acid and boron phosphate are recovered from spent boron phosphate catalyst contaminated with carbonaceous impurities by heating the spent catalyst with water and then removing the carbonaceous material. The carbonaceous material may be removed from the hot hydrolysis liquor and then either (a) the aq. liquor heated to give a boron phosphate paste, which may be dried and calcined or (b) the aq. liquor cooled to crystallize boric acid which is removed, and the cooled liquor remaining concentrated from 15-30% to 85-90% by wt. phosphoric acid. Alternatively, the hot hydrolysis liquor may be cooled and the carbonaceous material and crystallized boric acid removed together from the liquor. The hydrolysis may be carried out at 75- 150‹ C.
