1371407 Yarn finishing composition ALLIED CHEMICAL CORP 21 March 1972 [22 March 1971] 13233/72 Heading D1P [Also in Divisions C3 and C5] An aqueous emulsion suitable for treatment of polyethylene terephthalate yarn comprises the following components: (a) isocetyl stearate or coconut oil or mineral oil (b) glycerol monooleate, (c) decaglycerol tetraoleate, (d) polyoxyethylene tall oil fatty acid, (e) sulphonated glycerol trioleate, alone or together with polyoxyethylene tallow amine, and (f) a silane of formula I: wherein n=2-5, the components being in stated proportions in which (a) and (f) predominate. The emulsion may contain 15-35 weight per cent of the components (a)-(f) and preferably further contains a minor amount of 4,4'- thiobis-(6-tert-butyl-m-cresol). The function of components (a)-(f) include those of an adhesion activator, a lubricant, an antistatic agent and an emulsifier. Polyethylene terephthalate yarn treated with the emulsion, e.g. to leave 0.5-1.4 weight per cent of the components (a)-(f) thereon, can be twisted into a tyre cord whose adhesion to rubber can then be improved by treatment with a single resorcinolformaldehyde latex dip. Polyester yarns other than polyethylene terephthalate yarns may be treated. |
