abstract 1370952 Isobornyl carbamates FARBWERKE HOECHST AG 20 Jan 1972 [21 Jan 1971 4 Dec 1971] 2827/72 Heading C2C Novel isobornyl carbamates of the formula Ib.O.CO.NH.CH 2 .CH(R).CH 2 N(R 1 )R 2 in which Ib is an isobornyl radical, R is H or OH and R 1 and R 2 , which may be the same or different, each are C 1-4 alkyl, or R 1 and R 2 together with the nitrogen atom to which they are attached form a 1-pyrrolidinyl or piperidino radical, and acid addition salts thereof are prepared by reacting isobornyl chloroformate or isobornyl succinimido carbonate with amines of the formula H 2 N-CH 2 - CH(R)CH 2 N(R 1 )R 2 . Isobornyl chloroformate is obtained by reacting isoborneol with phosgene. Isobornyl succinimido carbonate is made by reacting isobomyl chloroformate with N- hydroxysuccinimide. Pharmaceutical compositions, in a form suitable for administration by subcutaneous or intramuscular injection or topically, contain the above novel compounds or acid addition salts thereof, in admixture or conjunction with pharmaceutically suitable carriers. The compounds are local anaesthetics.
