abstract | 1370898 Styryl-benzopyrans RICOH KK 23 Dec 1971 [26 Dec 1970] 60125/71 Heading C2C Compounds (I), where X is halogen, NO 2 or CN; Y is halogen, NO 2 , CN or carboxyl; R 1 is hydrogen or C 1-4 alkyl; R 2 is hydrogen or phenyl; R 3 and R 4 are hydrogen, methyl, ethyl or alkoxy; and n and n<SP>1</SP> are 0, 1 or 2 but n and n<SP>1</SP> are not both zero, are made by reacting a compound (II), where Z- is an anion; with methanol in a mixture with benzene and a base. Pyrylium salts (II) may be made by reacting a compound (III) with an acetone derivative R 1 CH 2 COCH 2 R 2 and reacting the intermediate product with an aldehyde V. |
