abstract | 1369729 Bisphenolsulphides CIBA-GEIGY AG 19 Dec 1972 [21 Dec 1971] 58657/72 Heading C2C [Also in Division C3] Bisphenol sulphides of formula where x is 1 to 4, may be prepared by reacting 2,6-dimethyl-4-mercaptophenol with iodine or by reacting 2,6-dimethylphenol with sulphur monochloride and sulphur. In examples: (1) bis-(3,5-dimethyl-4-hydroxyphenyl) disulphide is prepared by reacting the mercaptophenol with iodine, (2) a mixture of mono-, di- and trisulphides are prepared by reacting the dimethylphenol with sulphur monochloride and sulphur, and (3) the trisulphide is recovered by recrystallizing the product of (2) twice from acetone. |
