titleOfInvention Biocidal compositions containing organotin compounds
abstract 1368237 Organotin compounds ALBRIGHT & WILSON Ltd 31 Aug 1971 [4 Sept 1970] 42556/70 Heading C2J [Also in Division A5] Compounds of the general formula where R is aryl, cycloalkyl, alkaryl, heterocyclic or C 1-4 alkyl, n is from 3 to 6, Y is Cl, Br or I and X is NR<SP>1</SP> 3 Y, PR<SP>1</SP> 3 Y, SR<SP>1</SP> 2 Y, SC(NR<SP>1</SP> 2 ) 2 Y or MY m where R<SP>1</SP> is phenyl or C 2-6 alkyl and M is a Group IIb, IIIb, IVb or Vb element of oxidation number (m+1) and additionally X may be I when Y is I are prepared by one of the following processes: (a) when X is NR<SP>1</SP> 3 Y, PR<SP>1</SP> 3 Y, SR<SP>1</SP> 2 Y or SC(NR<SP>1</SP> 2 ) 2 Y by reacting a compound with elemental halogen and contacting the reaction product with a compound NR<SP>1</SP> 3 , PR<SP>1</SP> 3 , SR<SP>1</SP> 2 or SC(NR<SP>1</SP> 2 ) 2 as required, usually in an alcoholic solvent; (b) when X is MY m by reacting a compound of Formula II with a metal halide MY m+1 such as AlCl 3 , SnCl 4 , PBr 3 , AlBr 3 , PCl 3 , BF 3 , ZnCl 2 , PbCl 4 , AsCl 3 and HgCl 2 usually in ethyl acetate or a petroleum fraction as solvent; and (c) when X is I by reacting a compound of Formula II with elemental iodine. Numerous compounds are specified but none are claimed. The invention also comprises biocidal compositions comprising as active ingredient a compound of Formula (I) or (II) dissolved or dispersed in a suitable liquid diluent or in the form of wettable powder.
