abstract 1368184 Thermometers THERMEX Inc 23 Aug 1972 39293/72 Heading G1D A thermometer, in particular a clinical thermometer, is provided with a manually operated means 20 which closes a capillary bore 15 so as to prevent indicator liquid 18 from returning to a reservoir 14 on removal of heat source. The means 20 may comprise a sharp tip 27 (as shown) for piercing the thermometer material, or may comprise means for constricting the bore 15. The bore 15 is open to the atmosphere via a reduced diameter bore 16. The reservoir is formed of material having a high thermal conductivity.
