1366691 Aromatic ethers of tetrafluoroethylene oligomers IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 7 March 1972 [31 March 1971] 8295/71 Addition to 1130822 Heading C2C The invention comprises a process for the preparation of aromatic ether derivatives of tetrafluoroethylene oligomers which comprises reacting a tetrafluoroethylene oligomer (C 2 F 4 ) n , where n is an integer greater than one, with an aromatic compound containing at least one hydroxyl group attached directly to the aromatic nucleus, in the presence of an amine, whereby HF is eliminated between an OH group and the oligomer. The aromatic compounds may be substituted by other functional groups in addition to the hydroxy group(s) or, if the aromatic compound has only one or two lower alkyl groups, as in the preferred case, these groups may be further reacted, e.g. sulphonated, nitrated, chlormethylated and chlorsulphonated, subsequent to the reaction with the oligomer. |
