titleOfInvention | Process for the polymerization of olefins and catalyst therefor |
abstract | 1365415 Olefin polymerization catalyst MITSUBISHI CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 14 April 1972 [16 April 1971 18 June 1971] 17330/72 Heading C3P Mono- or di-olefins are polymerized in the presence of a catalyst system comprising (A) an organoaluminium compound and (B) the solid reaction product of (i) an organotin compound, (ii) a trihalide of Group III and (iii) a transition metal compound which is a V(IV) or V(V) compound or mixture or reaction product thereof with a Ti(IV) compound. Desirably component (B) is prepared in the presence of a solid partially reduced titanium or vanadium compound, which may have been obtained by a similar reduction process of reacting components (i), (ii) and (iii) or by other conventional procedures. In examples, ethylene or ethylene/ propylene are polymerized in the presence of (A) triisobutylaluminium, triethylaluminium, or diethylaluminium - chloride or - ethoxide, and (B), (i) tri-n-butyltin chloride, di-n-butyltin dichloride, or triisobutyltin chloride, (ii) aluminium chloride or boron trichloride, and (iii) a titanium tetrachloride / tri - n - butyl vanadate mixture, vanadium tetrachloride, titanium tetrachloride/vanadium oxytrichloride, titanium tetrachloride/vanadium tetrachloride or dichloromonobutylvanadate. Hydrogen is present in most cases, while mixtures of (B) components are sometimes used, and other (B) components are prepared in the presence of preformed reduced transition metal compounds, obtained by a like procedure. |
